Medical Insurance Billing and Coding Program

Students of Everest's Medical Insurance Billing and Coding program work on specialized computers to learn about Medical Insurance, Claims Processing and Collection Strategies, Current Procedural Coding and Diagnostic Coding.

The medical billing and coding career field is for someone who wants to work in health care, but would prefer to work in more an administrative role—instead of with patients.

Medical Billers are really responsible for making sure everyone is being billed correctly. Some of this involves talking with patients and/or health insurance companies on a regular basis to make sure all invoices are paid in a timely fashion. The biller should understand how to read medical invoices and coding language. This is perfect for someone who wants to have a balance of working with people (on the phone) and also spending time analyzing invoices and data.

Our nine-month program offers training in:

  • Medical Insurance
  • Claims Processing/Collection Strategies
  • Current Procedural Coding
  • Diagnostic Coding

This program offers simulated practice where you manually and electronically prepare insurance claims. You will practice interviewing and documenting skills to obtain the necessary patient information for successfully completing and managing claims.

The medical coder career field is perfect for someone who wants a job analyzing data and thinking about how to code various items. The medical coder spends most of his/her time assigning codes for various medical procedures. Every medical diagnosis or procedure within a health care facility must be assigned a proper code so that the office can file for reimbursement from an insurance company. Medical coders can work in doctor's office, hospital, or other health care office. Some medical coders can work for agencies that take work from nearby medical clinics that outsource the work to them.
